Healthy homes for seniors

The Healthy Homes for Seniors (HHS) program in Springfield supports senior homeowners aged 60+ by providing dollar-for-dollar matching grants of up to $5,000 for essential home improvements. The program focuses on accessibility upgrades for aging in place and energy-efficient repairs to help manage utility costs. Eligible neighborhoods include Doling Park East, Fassnight, Grant Beach, Meador Park East, and Woodland Heights, to enhance housing stability for seniors on fixed incomes.

How it works

Steps to participate & receive reimbursement

01

Application Submission:

  • A senior homeowner or family member applies through the Restore SGF website.

  • The application outlines necessary repairs and their impact on the senior’s health and well-being.

Bid Collection:

  • The applicant obtains written bids for the repairs.

  • They can review bids with the Restore SGF Construction Specialist to clarify the scope of work and next steps.

Project Review:

  • Upon approval, the applicant may consult with the Restore SGF Construction Specialist.

  • Guidance includes project details and a list of contractors homeowners can choose from, or they may select their own.

Repair Work:

  • The contractor completes the approved repairs.

  • The applicant can contact Restore SGF or the Construction Specialist for support.

  • The Construction Specialist ensures repairs are done correctly and protects the homeowner’s interests.

Reimbursement:

  • Once repairs are completed and inspected, the applicant submits a reimbursement request.

  • Restore SGF covers 50% of costs, up to $5,000.

  • A reimbursement check is issued within 30 days.

The Healthy Homes for Seniors (HHS) is a competitive grant program with priority given to applications that best meet factors such as the Restore SGF mission, program requirements, complete and thorough applications, neighborhood impact, teamwork, and other factors; while funding is available.

Household income limit

To qualify for the Healthy Homes for Seniors program, your income, based on household size, must not exceed 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Effective January 25, 2025

Applicants may have to provide Restore SGF with their most recent federal income tax return along with their most recent 30 days of payroll/income statements.
